Troy, New York
is home to many exciting special events throughout the year. From county fairs and festivals, arts and crafts fairs, concerts, farmers markets and more, there is always something going on in the area. The city of Troy attracts thousands of visitors each year to its colorful holiday events and boasts having the country's largest Flag Day Parade. Below is just a sample of the special events to choose from while visiting Troy.
River Street Festival – Usually held in June, the City of Troy and the River Street merchants formed this festival that has a grassroots arts and antiques theme. This family oriented special event also offers lots of good food and entertainment.
Flag Day Parade – One of the nation's largest Flag Day Parades, held in early June.
The Uncle Sam Parade – held in mid-September in the proximity of Samuel Wilson (Uncle Sam's) birthday.
The Classics Project – a classical theater festival usually held during July and August. Between fifteen to twenty emerging theatre artists are provided residency with the Bakerloo Theatre Project to develop their craft while performing a repertory season of plays by Shakespeare and other great playwrights.
Troy Night Out – a monthly event in downtown Troy with live entertainment, gallery openings and other events. Shops and restaurants stay open late as the streets are filled with people and events.
Annual Capital District Apple Festival and Craft Fair - Held in October at the Altamont Fair Grounds in Altamont, New York. Activities include Haunted House, Face Painting, Pumpkin Painting, Clowns, Pony Rides, Kids Activities, Fiddlers, Wine Tasting, Museums and Special Displays, Farmers Market and Bakery, Cooking Demonstrations, and various other entertainment. Troy Winters Farmers Market – ongoing throughout the winter months
Annual Troy Turkey Trot – Beginning in 1964, this event has grown to be one of the largest road races in the area. Takes place Thanksgiving weekend.
Elves Night Out – An annual event in the month of December. Music, elves, pictures with Santa, horse and wagon rides, caroling around the Christmas tree and shopping in the village of Canajoharie.
Annual Holiday Greens Show in the Hart-Cluett House – The 1827 Hart-Cluett House is dressed for the holidays with fresh greens, fruits and flowers. This event features a silent auction of wreaths and other holiday centerpieces by garden members. There is a family night with storytelling under the tree, crafts, photos with Santa and other children's activities. In conjunction with this event, special candlelight tours of the Hart-Cluett House are available.
The Victorian Stroll – another annual holiday tradition for over twenty years that takes place in downtown Troy. The historic downtown is transformed with holiday decorations, dancers, magicians, storytellers, rides, food and a craft fair. Throughout the event, Troy's unique shops, boutiques and galleries are open for holiday shopping.
Capital District Garden & Flower Show – Held at the Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York. This garden & flower related special event offers garden displays, floral displays, workshops, educational booths, a food court and free parking.
